LESSON PLAN TITLE:  Rhyming Collage (language/poetry)

GRADE:  Primary

 

NE STANDARDS: 1.1.2 By the end of first grade, students will demonstrate basic phonological awareness and familiarity with the letters of the alphabet exhibiting a working knowledge of letters and sounds.

·         Recognize and generate rhyming words.

 

OBJECTIVES:  Students will match a word with pictures that rhyme with that word.  Students will make a collage of the rhyming pictures.

 

MATERIALS:  Paper  Markers  Magazines  Glue  Scissors

 

 

PROCEDURES

 

Anticipatory Set:  Teacher will demonstrate  words that rhyme, such as a picture of a hat and cat, or red and bed .

 

Vocabulary:  Words that rhyme for the word wall.

 

Activities:  The students will make a collage of  pictures rhyming words. 

 

 

 

Provisions for special needs:   The special scissors that are easy to use.   The teacher can also have pictures already cut from the magazines and the students can just choose what picture they will need.

 

 

 

CLOSURE:  The students can hang their pictures up for display.

 

 

ASSESSMENT:  Are the students choosing pictures that rhyme?

Reflection:  This activity can give the students an opportunity to distinguish rhyming words.
